Athens' lost and lonely fuzzy friends are able to find a home with the help from the Athens County Human Society, and this Halloween pets will be able to get something else — a costume.
Inspired by Tim Burton’s newest release, Frankenweenie, the Humane Society will be hosting a pet costume, “Dress up your Pup” contest and fundraiser through social media. The organization hopes this event will raise funds and awareness of the rising number of homeless animals.
The top five contenders’ photo will be displayed at the Athena Grand beginning October 5, the opening day of Frankenweenie. Attendees will then vote for their favorites through donation.
The three animals with the most donations will receive prizes.
First prize for first place is a gift basket and movie passes to the Athena Grand and the second place winner will receive a smaller gift basket accompanied by movie passes. The third place winner will be given a small gift basket.
All donations will be given to the Athens County Humane Society.
Submissions will be accepted through Facebook, Twitter, and email at dressupyourpupACHS@gmail.com. Entries will be accepted until September 28 at 5 p.m.
