Air taxi service uses OU's airport without contract, pays for fuel

Correction: Because of a reporting error, the cost of per-hour SATSair service was reported to be $5959, but it is in fact $595.

Look up in the sky G

so you're not flying on any schedule other than your own said Ken Carley, director of the airport.

SATSair, which stands for Small Aircraft Transportation System, is an air charter company based out of Greenville, S.C., and has a service area that encompasses much of the southeastern United States. The company has 26 aircraft and is in the process of obtaining 90 more.

The average use for SATSair service is regional travel within a 300 mile radius, and can reduce a two-hour drive to a half hour of travel in the air, according to the company's website.G which is the moving of the plane to the take-off location from another spot.

SATSair offers packages that can be shared between a family, businesses or other group of people ranging from a $2,795 five-hour package to a $22,000 50-hour package. Flights are also available for $595 per hour within the service area.

The airport is a public facility and as such, SATSair, which is not a scheduled airline, can use the facility without a contract or lease agreement.

The community is gaining low cost airline opportunities and the university gains in fuel sales and other things that help offset operating cost

said Carley.

People ask

'how many planes do you base in Athens?' said Phil Quist, Vice President of business operations for SATSair, and I say 26 planes can be there tomorrow. It's all supply and demand.
