Weekender Briefs: What’s happening this week

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, a lot of events have been canceled or rescheduled. However, some organizations and Athens groups are adapting to the Ohio stay-at-home order and hosting events online through virtual services, like Zoom and Microsoft Teams. Here’s a list of some events still happening this week:

Friday, July 24

Virtual Gardening: Pollinators at 3 p.m., hosted by Growing Athens County. Join the Athens County Master Gardeners through Zoom to learn about pollinators along with plants and flowers that attract them. The event is open to all ages with no prior knowledge necessary. Register for the event through the Facebook event page.

80s Night Live From Quarantine at 9 p.m., hosted by DJ Barticus and WOUB Public Media. Though places have started to open up, DJ Barticus feels mass gatherings aren’t the greatest idea for people’s health. Join the livestream through Twitch.tv or through Instagram @bartykutz.

Saturday, July 25

Yoga in the Park at 9:30 a.m., hosted by Athens Yoga. Join various instructors for a socially distant outdoor yoga class. Links to pay the instructors are on the Facebook event page.

New Life Assembly of God Open House at 12 p.m., hosted by Kona Ice of Athens. Stop by and visit the new church and enjoy a free Kona Ice compliments of Pastor Phil and the New Life Assembly of God, 11640 Upper River Road.

Monday, July 27

OU International Student Donation Night UUFA at 6 p.m., hosted by the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Athens 184 Longview Heights Road. Drop off your shelf-stable foods or fresh produce that doesn’t need immediate refrigeration, toiletries and personal care items for Ohio University international students. Finding Home in Your Body: Yoga, Writing & Meditation Workshop at 6:30 p.m., hosted by Spiral Path Therapies and Erin Christine Pfahler. Join Pfahler and Hannah Simonetti for an evening of introspection through yoga, writing and body-centered meditation.

Happy Hour @ Home: Come Sail Away at 5:30 p.m., hosted by the Dairy Barn Arts Center. Join Lyn Stanton for the second part of this mini-seascape series, and paint a sailboat of your own.
