Sheriff's Office investigating possible murder-suicide

The Athens County Sheriff's Office is investigating a possible murder-suicide that occurred at around 9 a.m. this morning.

Robert Nusser, 68, called 9-1-1 at about 9 a.m. Monday morning, stating that a murder-suicide occured at his residence, about 15 minutes north of Ohio University, according to a Sheriff's Office news release.

When asked what happened, Nusser said "I'm the one that caused it."

The call then ended.

The Sheriff's special response team entered the residence at about 9:35 a.m. and found Nusser dead with a single gunshot wound in a living room chair and Paulette Nusser, 64, dead with a single gunshot wound lying in bed, according to the release.

Deputies from the Sheriff's Office made contact with Nusser on Feb. 25 to serve the residents with an eviction notice and again on March 25 to inform the Nussers that had to vacate the residence, according to the release.

The Nussers had recently moved from Chillicothe to Athens, according to the release.

The audio has been edited to remove personal information such as the Social Security number and address.
