Your Turn: Honing Internet, e-mail grammar a necessity for students

It's about time someone said something (albeit a little something) about the horrible lack of grammar in online correspondence. This is an extremely important issue in my mind. As a student, I feel it is vital to hone your Internet grammar so as to offer your best impressions. Many employers use e-mail to communicate with prospective employees and they judge you based on your etiquette and grammar. As my mother always said, If they can't understand what you write

they won't care what you write.

Some tips for proofreading e-mails:

1. Read the e-mail backwards. Start at the end and work your way up, line by line. This allows you to read what you actually wrote, rather than what you think you wrote.

2. Set the e-mail aside for an hour and re-read it later. This will make you more likely to spot mistakes and typos. This also allows you to better evaluate the tone of your e-mail.
