Boil Order issued until 4 p.m. Thursday

A boil order has been issued to residents living on any one of the 21 effected streets in the area.

Residents on the following streets are advised to boil their water until 4 p.m. Thursday: N. Blackburn Rd., Cash Ln., Westfield Pl., Carol Ln., Wonder Hills Dr., Sue Dr., Emerson Dr., S. Blackburn Rd., Andover Pl., E. Clearview Dr., Robin Hill Rd., Ball Dr., Julian Dr., Kay Dr., Kimes Ln., Berkley Dr., W. Clearview Dr., Angela Dr., Virginia Ln., Ann Dr., and Albany Rd.

According to a release from the city of Athens, there is a variety of reasons why boil alerts are issued.

“The Ohio EPA recommends public water suppliers issue a boil order anytime the pressure in the water distribution system drops below 20 psi and the system is compromised due to a water main break, local flooding, structure fires, or even regular operational maintenance,” the report said.

According to the release, residents are advised to boil water for three minutes before using, discard ice cubes until the boil order is over, use disposable forks, knives and plates if possible; sterilize non-disposable plates in a solution of one teaspoon of unscented household bleach for every five gallons of water when washing dishes.

Those with compromised immune systems should be especially careful during this time.
