To conclude Monday’s Occupy OhioU “Free School” professor lectures, Ohio University faculty member Laura Larson led a discussion on cellphone photography.
Larson, a photography professor at OU, presented students with a photo workshop targeted around how cellphones have become the biggest form of documentation.
"As technology changes, so does what makes a good photograph," she said. "It's becoming an everyday unskilled activity."
Larson highlighted the Tumblr page “We are the 99 percent.” This Tumblr page is created “by the people who occupy Wall Street,” according to http://wearethe99percent.com. The site encourages those involved to take and post pictures that explain or demonstrate that they are not part of the 1 percent occupiers say are getting everything.
“I believe in the occupation movement, and as an educator, I believe in training as many individuals as I can both in and out of the classroom,” she said.
Larson concluded the discussion by encouraging students to post their own cellphone photos of Occupy OhioU online at http://occupyou.tumblr.com.
“I want you to photograph this demonstration and what comes from it," she said. "It can be an alternative form of documentation.”
