The third and final day of the seventh annual Nelsonville Music Festival was marked by a drop in temperature and attendance. The weather and the state of the field in front of the Main Stage did not overshadow the day's performances, though.
After two days of mostly male headliners, Neko Case and Wanda Jackson added a woman's touch to the mainstage.
Jackson wowed the crowd with her strong voice and stage presence. She performed some of her oldest hits, including her first number one rock hit (in Japan).
Case closed the festival with her brand of alternative folk. Her strong voice impressed the remaining crowd members, even though the mud in the field had become even thicker by the time she took the stage.
Other notes from the day include:
—Doug Paisley played an excellent set on the main stage accompanied by Cheyenne Marie Mize.
—Leo DeLuca, Southeast Engine's drummer, said, "I saw Ned Oldham and Old Calf play under a bush as it was drizzling rain. You normally have to see an artist like that in a bar. Or seeing the Black Swans with the wind blowing — it adds to the ambience and the atmosphere of it all."
—Butch's BBQ served an excellent pork sandwich for a reasonable $5. The pork was very good, but the tangy barbeque sauce proved to be the sandwich's key ingredient.
—After the Flaming Lips' electrifying performance last night, today's crowd seemed slightly burnt out.
