After almost two years of doing business in The Plains, Athens County’s Habitat for Humanity ReStore will be reopening much closer to Ohio University’s campus.
The ReStore closed its location in The Plains on March 9 and will be reopening tomorrow at 309 W. Union St.
One of 32 such stores in Ohio, the ReStore will offer secondhand hardware supplies like doors, paint and windows — as well as furniture and electronics, said Molly Blair, ReStore coordinator.
Proceeds from sales will be put toward future Habitat for Humanity construction projects in Athens County, and pay the salaries of the stores two employees, Blair said.
Blair said she hopes to see more donations and purchases from students now that the ReStore is located in the city of Athens.
“The move will certainly get the students out here more,” she said. “We’re hoping more of the students will drive their donations down here when they move out, and if not, we’ll have five drop-off locations (on campus).”
The new location will also give the ReStore more space to grow, Blair said.
“We grew out of our old building,” she said. “It was a constant challenge to keep stuff organized and keep stuff rolling out the door.”
The ReStore will be open Wednesdays to Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
