The Ohio softball team will look to play the roll of spoiler when they head to Marshall for a three-game series this weekend.
After picking up two key victories against Kent State last weekend, Ohio (15-28 overall, 2-9 Mid-American Conference) struggled against Cleveland State Wednesday, dropping both games in the doubleheader. Marshall (24-13 overall, 9-2 MAC), on the other hand, is riding a hot streak. The Thundering Herd currently sits at the top of the MAC East standings, having won 10 of its last 12 contests.
Ohio Coach Roanna Brazier realizes the toughness of Marshall but would love to spoil their bid as the MAC East champion.
Marshall is going to be fast
solid defensively and they're hitting .291 as a team Brazier said. Not only would we help ourselves with a win this weekend but we would be spoiling their chance to win the conference. They obviously want to win the conference this year
with it being their last year and all
so it'd be huge for us to knock them out of first place.
Shannon Weidner provided all of the Bobcats' offense in game one of Wednesday's doubleheader by hitting a three-run homer.
Shannon is one of a kind
Brazier said. She is one of our smartest ballplayers. She always hits the nail right on the head when it comes to what the team needs. Before the Kent series
she was making it a little more difficult for herself than it should have been. But now Jenny Tisevich and she are carrying the offense now.
Starting pitchers Zoe Heim and Michelle Sauter both earned losses in Wednesday's doubleheader despite throwing complete games. The pair has now combined for 15 complete games, but has only won eight of them.
Brazier said that they are not bothered by this at all and have continued to have fun.
They just love softball
Brazier said. They go out every game regardless of the record and just have fun. That's what we need from the rest of the team in order to get more wins.
Ohio and Marshall will play a doubleheader Saturday and a single game Sunday in Huntington, W.Va. The first pitch is slated at 1 p.m. both afternoons.
