The Ohio soccer team just didn't have enough energy left when it faced Northeastern yesterday in the Regina Moench Memorial Tournament. Ohio was short-handed all weekend because of injuries to key players, and that ' coupled with a lack of execution ' was too much for the Bobcats to overcome as they lost 2-0.
I think we were a little depleted from injuries and just energy from Friday night
coach Stacy Strauss said. But even given that I didn't think we weren't able to execute very well. I think once we get people back into form and over injuries we'll start to pick up from where we left off last weekend.
Ohio was without Jess MacLean, Sarah Brown, Kate Fledderjohn and Rachael Goulding when it took on Northeastern (2-1-0) - MacLean said of Goulding's absence. It's a little bit of an adjustment when you are with people you usually aren't playing with. MacLean was rested yesterday after playing the entire game Friday against Minnesota.
Even though the Bobcats were missing key contributors, Strauss didn't use that as an explanation for Ohio's offensive struggles over the weekend.
We didn't do a great job of finding our forwards in the offensive zone
Strauss said. We need to start doing a better job getting the ball to their feet
and then from there more opportunities will come.
While the Bobcats had trouble scoring, the same couldn't be said about Northeastern junior Liza Rebello, who she scored both goals for the Huskies.
Rebello's first goal came in the 15th minute when she was able to head a crossing pass from Veronica Napoli into the back of the net. She'd net her second goal of the day in the second half when she scored unassisted.
I think we had some good things come out of the weekend
Wyoming, Ohio native Erika Schmitt said. I think we really identified what we need to work on and we kept playing hard even when we were down
but I think we definitely need to work on finishing and getting in it offensively.
In its first game, Ohio (1-3-1) took on host Minnesota (5-0-0) and fell behind 2-0 in the first half. The Bobcats played well defensively and held the Gophers scoreless in the second half, but they weren't able to score.
