Track and Field: Throwers help lead to second place finish at Capitol Invitational

Bahiyjaui Allen wasn't completely satisfied with her performance.

Allen stepped into the ring like so many times before, ready to make her throw in the shot put. The final result was a throw of 14.08 meters and a first-place finish.

But that wasn't good enough for Allen.

I wasn't too happy about it

Allen said. I was happy that I won but my mark wasn't anywhere close to my best. I know I can do better.

Allen and the Bobcats took second place in the eight-team Capital Invitational on Saturday. Ohio State finished first.

Allen was also part of the Ohio trio that swept the top three places in the women's weight throw. She finished third with a throw of 14.08 meters.

I actually did better than I thought in the weights Allen said. I didn't think I was going to do that well.

The first-place finisher in the weight throw was Jessie Tanner, who took first place with a throw of 16.04 meters. Emily Amendola placed second at *15.36 meters.

Amendola and Tanner also finished third and fourth in the shot put with throws of 12.89 and 12.86 meters.

I've put in a lot of hard work

Tanner said. I think this is a really good start to my senior year.

It was a promising star for the throwers, coach Clay Calkins said. They competed without the help of the distance unit, whom Calkins held for this weekend's Bowling Green Invitational.

They came on strong for the first meet

he said. I'm sure they can keep that going throughout the year.

Brittany Vinson took third in the triple jump, the best finish for Ohio's other field events. Susan Plungis shined on the track with a second-place time of 1:01.81 in the 400-meter dash.

Calkins seemed pleased all around with his squad's effort.

We sat out our entire distance squad and finished second behind Ohio State

Calkins said. Obviously

we're always shooting for first place

but it wasn't a bad finish for our first meet of the year.
