Although there is construction on Jefferson Hill, don't get too excited ' the only vehicles driving on it will
be bulldozers.
In a meeting of the Athens City Board of Zoning Appeals last Tuesday, Athens city approved temporarily paving part of Jeff Hill to provide access to the fraternity Delta Tau Delta for remodeling, said Andy Stone, director of the street department.
The paved half will serve as a roadway for Dumpsters because the front steps of the house are not wide enough to easily move them to the street.
The Columbus-based construction firm Gutknecht Construction will replant the grass on Jeff Hill after the Delta Tau Delta project is complete, Stone said.
Delta Tau Delta is gutting and renovating the house to make it handicap accessible and eliminate its 15 outstanding code violations, said Code Enforcement Director Steve Pierson. The project should cost less than $2 million and last about a year, Project Manager Jaime Weisent said.-
(the university) has no involvement whatsoever said John Kotowski, associate vice president of facilities.-
