Your Turn: Editorial lacks sincerity for job losses, drinking issues

The Post editorial on the elimination of Security Aides is a naive attempt of the Editorial Board to continue to criticize the University for the ongoing budget cuts. The board's attempt to link Security Aides to actually discouraging underage drinking on campus is laughable. As any Bobcat can tell you, you quickly learn how to avoid detection from both Security Aides and Resident Assistants when living in the dorms (I know I did).

Over the past couple months I have been following the Post's ongoing debate about budget cuts at the University. The Editorial Board continues to take a parochial view of this issue and fails to realize that colleges and universities across the nation are faced with extraordinary budget conditions. I work for a university-based hospital system and the budget conditions at our institution (both the hospital system and the University) are unprecedented because of the decline in our endowment. OU and my employer are just a small portion of universities that are being forced to make difficult cuts.

Next time, please be above feigning interest in preventing underage drinking to express your displeasure of budget cuts. Your lack of sincerity really makes me question if you are really concerned about the 18 student workers who will lose their jobs. Or do you just want another reason to harp on the administration (rightfully or not).
