A previous Pulitzer Prize Board co-chair is in town to speak on the future of journalism and reporting the news partisanly.
Greg Moore, current editor of The Denver Post and 2012-13 co-chair of the Pulitzer board, is on campus to have a discussion on the news industry. The event is sponsored by the Scripps College of Communication, OU’s Society of Professional Journalists and The Post.
“It’s always a good idea to meet with the experts in our field,” said Ryan Clark,
editor-in-chief of The Post.
Clark said he is grateful to Justice Hill, an assistant professor in the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, for organizing the event. Hill and Moore were childhood friends.
Moore is a Cleveland native who started his career at The Journal-Herald in Dayton.
He went on to work for The Plain Dealer in Cleveland and The Boston Globe, where he was managing editor before taking on his current position at The Denver Post.
“I hope that I’ll be talking about things the students want to know,” Moore said.
The discussion will be moderated by Joshua Jamerson, local news editor of The Post.
Moore is among prominent African American journalists who will be in Athens this month. Soledad O’Brien, award-winning journalist who previously hosted CNN’s morning news program Starting Point, will be at OU on Thursday.
“We need as a school to have more conversations about diversity,” said Robert Stewart, director of the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism. “I would really like all journalism students to show up at this thing, whether they think they’re interested in the topic at hand or the topic of diversity or not, they should come out and listen to Greg Moore talk because he is a really important voice in our industry.”
