After the Ohio softball team was swept in both games of a doubleheader by Kentucky on Tuesday night, they did their best to forget about it as quickly as possible.
Personally
I was over it the minute we left the field coach Jill Matyuch said.
The Bobcats will look to rebound from those losses when they travel to face Toledo and Bowling Green this weekend, resuming the conference portion of their schedule.
Ohio (17-19, 2-2 Mid-American Conference) was shut out in both games by the Wildcats, 7-0 and 3-0, respectively. Very little offense was generated in either game, making it a frustrating night for the team, but one that could not shake the players' focus.
With something like that you just have to let it go
outfielder Kelly Rodriguez said. We have conference (play) coming up and that's what we're concerned about now.
We just have to stay focused
second baseman Alicia Catlette said.
This weekend also brings a conclusion to what is essentially a 40-game road trip. The team will play their home opener Tuesday against Virginia Tech, but the wear and tear of playing so many games on the road has not fazed the team.
The upperclassmen are used to it
Rodriguez said. We just adapt to it and it becomes our lives. But like everything else
we make adjustments
deal with it and just get used to it.
Toledo (10-20, 1-2 MAC) is coming off a doubleheader sweep of Dayton on Wednesday. 2005 All-MAC selection Gina Muratori leads the Rockets with a .375 batting average, while Valerie Moxim provides the power, leading the Rockets this season with seven homers and 24 RBI.
Bowling Green (21-12, 4-0 MAC) was swept by Ohio State in a doubleheader Wednesday. Third baseman Gina Rango leads the Falcons in nearly every offensive statistical category, including hits (35), home runs (four), and RBI (18). The Bowling Green pitching staff is tops in the MAC with a 1.68 earned run average.
As has been the case with many Bobcat opponents this season, Toledo and Bowling Green can expect to see a heavy dose of ace pitcher Michelle Sauter, who leads Bobcat pitchers in ERA (1.37) and strikeouts (75).
(Sauter) will get a couple of starts for us
Matyuch said. She has really done a terrific job and I think it would be crazy not to give her some opportunities this weekend.
The opening game of the Friday doubleheader with Toledo will start at 1 p.m. The Bobcats will then visit Bowling Green for two games. Saturday's game will begin at 2 p.m. and Sunday's is slated to start at 1 p.m.
