The woman involved in a two-car accident that lead to an Ohio Univeristy graduate student's death pleaded not guilty this week to two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide along with two counts of obstructing justice, said prosecuting attorney Robert Driscoll.
April Hankinson appeared before Athens County Court of Common Pleas Judge Michael Ward in her arraignment Wednesday.
On June 30, Hankinson ran her SUV through a red light on State Route 682 and collided with another driver. Her vehicle then went on to the sidewalk and allegedly struck and killed graduate physics student Abhishek Singh, who was thrown by the collision into the Hocking River, according to a July 19 Post article.
Though Hankinson was granted work privileges, she is not allowed to drive a vehicle, consume alcohol, leave her home from 9 p.m. until 7 p.m. or leave Athens County, according to docket sheets from the court.
Her prior record included only minor traffic violations, said Todd Grace, her representative in the proceedings.
The results of a toxicology report and BAC test of Hankinson as well as an autopsy on Singh were still unavailable at the time of the arraignment, Driscoll said.
Hankinson's next hearing will be on August 8, followed by a pretrial Oct. 22 and trial by jury Oct. 30.
