Local police departments arrested and took at least 48 people into custody during the weekend fests.
The Athens Police Department and Ohio University Police Department arrested and booked 11 people at Oak Fest Friday and 11 people at Mill Fest Saturday. Liquor control agents arrested 26 people at Mill Fest. The numbers of liquor control arrests from Oak Fest are not yet available.
Mill Fest, an annual block party that attracts thousand of partiers each year, stretched from College Street to McKinley Avenue. Police shut down two parties at Mill Fest, which otherwise remained calm. At least one party was shut down at Oak Fest, which was calmer than previous years.
Sixteen of the people arrested are current or former OU students. Eight were arrested at Mill Fest, and eight were arrested at Oak Fest. Twelve of the 16 were charged with public intoxication and eight for underage consumption. All six arrested, non-OU attendees were charged with public intoxication, and two of them also were charged with underage consumption. Other charges included falsification, disorderly conduct, public urination and resisting arrest.
APD reported Sunday that the Ohio Department of Public Safety arrested 26 others for alcohol-related offenses at Mill Fest.
Palmerfest May 8 resulted in 34 arrests by APD and 51 more by liquor control agents. APD posted pictures on its website Wednesday of seven people wanted in connection with starting a couch fire and asked for citizens to leave anonymous tips. Three of the people photographed have been arrested.
Cameron Soergel, an OU freshman, appeared in Athens County Municipal Court yesterday on an aggravated rioting charge. Soergel was arrested by APD patrol officer Charles Heagele.
OU freshman David Lowry and OU sophomore Kelsey Hayhow each were charged with one count of aggravated rioting and appeared in court Friday.
Aggravated rioting is a fourth degree felony. Soergel could spend a maximum of 18 months in prison and pay a maximum $5,000 fine if convicted, according to the Ohio Revised Code.
The other four revelers whose photos are posted on OUPD's website had not been identified by yesterday afternoon.
