Posner announced as Homecoming act

For those who think they’re cooler than Homecoming, think again.

Yesterday the University Programming Council officially announced homecoming act Mike Posner.

Posner performed in the area as part of 7 Fest last year and returns as the headliner.

“I think he’ll be really excited to come back to town, and we’re really excited to have him,” Hannah Croft, co- live entertainment executive for University Programming Council, said. “He’s gotten a lot bigger since he was here last.”

Unlike many universities, OU has not traditionally brought in a big artist for the Homecoming weekend. But Croft said she hopes the concert can become an annual event and thinks Posner will “set a good precedent” for the potential success of a homecoming show.

“We want alumni to know that when they come back there will be a show,” Croft said.

Posner will be paid $35,000  and perform in the Templeton-Blackburn Memorial Auditorium. Croft anticipates selling out the 1,950 seat venue.

Even though Mike Posner seems like an odd fit for the formal auditorium, Posner has a reputation for putting on an energetic show.

“Mem Aud will be turned into a rave for the night,” said Croft.

An opening act has not yet been chosen, but Croft said that as ticket sales get underway, a budget for the opener will solidify. She said that they will most likely go with a local or regional act that fits with the theme.

Since the announcement last night, the event's Facebook group has collected 805 people attending.

“People keep talking about it and it seems to be going well,” said Alex Feagin, the other live entertainment executive for UPC.

Tickets officially go on sale this Wednesday, August 3. The cost for the first 10 rows is $35 and general admission is $25. Tickets will be available at the ticket office in Mem Aud and at Ohioupc.com.
