'Brothers in arms' to play at Union

The Arch Villains bassist, Andrew Lampela, said this weekend's show is so exciting that he bought himself something special: brand new guitar picks and strings.

The Arch Villains and three other local bands will be playing with Interfuse at The Union, 18 W. Union St., this Saturday.

Akron-based band Interfuse does not play in the Athens area very often, but was invited by brothers in arms The Arch Villains, Interfuse guitarist/vocalist Sean Djuricic said.

Djuricic and guitarist Mike Oravec have been friends for a while and played with another band at Kent State University. Drummer Nick Cardarelli and bassist Lisa Cardarelli were in the audience, and the foursome started Interfuse on Valentine's Day of 1999. The band released their first EP in 2001 and their first full-length album, Closed Doors

Open Tracks in 2005. The influences for their cathartic straight-up rock 'n' roll or indie rock post-punk explosion include Fugazi and Sonic Youth. Djuricic also said the band's sound resembles Sonic Youth.

Fusing with the cathartic rock, The Arch Villains will bring simple noise rock said drummer Ben DeRolph, who is helping Interfuse record new music.

I like their music

and they are someone I can trust

he said.

Interfuse has been to Athens at least twice and have had a great time every time

Djuricic said. Oravec grew up in Marietta, so the band passes through any time they can. They said they are looking forward to coming back and especially to take a trip to favorite eatery Union Street Diner, 70 W. Union St.

Djuricic said Interfuse is just looking to have a good time at The Union Saturday.

It's just as sweet if there's three people there

the same as if there's 300 people

Djuricic said.

This summer, Interfuse will be one of at least 44 bands playing at Total Fest in Montana.

Arch Villains vocalist Kris Poland, who teaches political science at OU, says the Union show will include good people

good friends and good rock 'n' roll.

The Arch Villains and Interfuse are playing with Fine Dining, Stapler and Arthur Killroad Saturday at 10 p.m. for a cover.
