The Scalia Laboratory predicts the weather for two of Athens' first spring fests tomorrow to be 85 degrees and sunny, but in the event of a surprise storm, ArkFest planner John DeChant has it covered.
Rain or shine
it's happening said DeChant, an Ohio University junior studying media management. It actually rained one ArkFest and it was the most awesome time ever.
In just its fifth year, ArkFest is one of the younger Athens fests, but the party situated in the Stewart Street backlots has seen consistent growth. This year promises to be the biggest yet - 3,500 or 4,000 people are expected to be in attendance, DeChant said.
A full stage setup to accommodate performers Downplay, Jesty Beatz, Losanti, BedRoc and DJ Chip, as well as about 35 kegs, will keep the partygoers entertained from the fest's kickoff at noon tomorrow, DeChant added.
It's always a blast hanging out at the fests
said Dustin Bates, vocalist for local alternative favorite Downplay, which will also be performing at Palmerfest and Six Fest. We do the clubs
too ... (but the fests) expose our music to the younger students and not just the 21-and-up crowd.
Fests also provide a chance for friends to socialize, a factor that the ArkFest setup encourages.
It's in this area that's smaller
and it feels like everyone knows everyone
DeChant said. It's not like a bunch of houses separated doing their own party. It's just one big party.
However, those who enjoy the multiple-house atmosphere can also choose to attend High Fest tomorrow.
We're really excited
said Adam Verbance, a High Street resident and an OU junior studying sociology and criminology. We've been looking forward to it all year.
Verbance, who is joining forces with his neighbors for a High Fest party, likes the openness of a traditional street fest.
Instead of just
like
one place with 30 kegs
there's a lot of beer in different places
