As spring approaches and church bells sound, wedding season arrives in Athens, and networks WXTQ Power 105 and 970 WATH will hold their 15th annual bridal show in the Athens Community Center from noon to 4 p.m. this Sunday.
The event grants free admission to any future bride, groom or visitors simply wishing to sample a variety of wedding splendor. Andrea's Bridal Shop from Jackson will host the runway - flaunting a variety of gowns. Furthermore, additional vendors will be on display within the center, including free wedding cake tasting.
So far more than 40 vendors have registered to present their services at the show, said Jason "Stone" Robinaugh, account executive and afternoon drive personality for WXTQ/WATH. Those vendors range from classic services, such as photography and catering, to more out-of-the-box preparatory services, such as dentistry and chiropractors, he said.
"It's the kind of things you wouldn't normally think of, but it's great that they're here," Robinaugh said.
Door prizes for brides and grooms are provided by each vendor present and must be at least $50. This includes coupons, certificates and even a grand prize of a romantic getaway trip from CincinnatiUSA.com,
"It's the most central way in this part of the state for brides and grooms to get everything they need," Robinaugh said.
As for entertainment, there will be a dance performance by Belle Aimee Dance Studios demonstrating various first-dance styles for brides and grooms.
"What she does is give you dance lessons for dances you would do at your wedding," Robinaugh said. "Brides and grooms (can use) her dances so they don't look stupid at their own weddings."
Recently engaged senior Nikki Bair said the idea of planning a wedding is exciting. She added the event sounds like a great way to educate brides but said being a passionate event planner she desires more independence.
"I like originality and creativity, so doing things myself is a personal preference," Bair said. "It would be a fun atmosphere to experience and meet people, though."
The networks continue holding this event each year solely for that reason, Robinaugh said. It helps wedding planning run smoother when vendors and brides unite.
"A lot of opportunities for a lot of people," Robinaugh said. "It's just awesome we can make things a little easier."
