Senior Kyle Mosher was suddenly left without a roommate in his seven-bedroom house during the summer, but with the help of Uloop.com he was able to fill the room within a week.
Uloop.com is a Craigslist-type Web site that is specific to colleges and universities. One must enter an ohio.edu e-mail address to have access to the OU site.
I did a Craigslist post as well and got so many strange e-mails
even from people out of the country saying they would be in Athens and needed a place to say said Mosher, a marketing and MIS major.
Uloop.com started in January 2007 and has spread to more than 1,500 campuses across the country, CEO and co-founder Corey Cleek said. It has grown about ten times its original size just within the last year.
Uloop.com added OU to its site in September. The site fills the traditional role of classified ads, including listings to help students find roommates and housing, to buy and sell textbooks and to find jobs and internships.
The site is free for students and is supported by advertising from local businesses. The advertisements are not yet on the OU site because of its recent start.
The thing that is unique about Uloop is that it is by students for students
Cleek said.
Since the site requires an .edu e-mail address for access, it is safe and relevant to students within that network, said Brian Chmielewski, a senior studying marketing and management and the
brand ambassador for the company at OU.
Chmielewski added that the site will eventually include coupons from local advertisers.
Uloop is a safe and local way to connect with classmates
save money and meet practical needs
said Scott Lewis, Uloop's director of marketing and operations. We're seeing more and more Ohio students make connections and facilitate transactions through Uloop.com every week.
