Graduation Success Rate of Ohio's student-athletes among nation's best

Ohio's student-athletes' Graduation Success Rate exceeds the national average for Division I schools, according to figures released Thursday by the NCAA.

Ohio student-athletes who enrolled between 1999 and 2002 had GSR of 84 percent, which is five points higher than the national average of 79, said an Ohio University news release on Thursday.

I'm so proud of the academic accomplishments of our student-athletes, said Athletics Director Jim Schaus in the news release. These reports substantiate academic excellence in the critical areas of graduation rates and overall scholastic progress.

Field hockey

men's and women's golf swimming and volleyball each had 100 percent graduation rates.

Men's basketball graduated 85 percent of its student-athletes which is 21 percent higher than the national average. The football program graduated 76 percent

which is nine percent higher than the national average in the Football Bowl Subdivision.

Also

Ohio graduated 93 percent of athletes who completed their eligibility from 1999 to 2002

one of the top marks nationally

according to the news release.

The GSR differs from the federally mandated graduation-rate methodology because it counts transfers into and out of an institution. The NCAA developed it to more accurately assess long-term student-athlete academic success

according to the news release.
