Vonville said. He said he hoped senate would be able to agree on a sanction at its next meeting.
The continual process is something I'd like to avoid he said. I think the majority of senate feels that way as well.Roder also said she hoped to reach a decision soon.
This needs to be resolved quickly because senate is doing so many wonderful things Roder said. I want everyone to be recognized for the projects they're working on and to remove the focus from this.
Roder was impeached on two of five charges
brought against her, finding that she did not make necessary material available to senators and did not conduct quarterly evaluations. At that time, she was not found guilty of gross and willful neglect of duty, which would have resulted in her immediate removal from office.
Roder said she thought a fair sanction would be public censure and that her removal from office would be too harsh.
The senate also debated a presentation from Graduate Student Senate representatives concerning a resolution passed at that group's Monday meeting. The resolution asks Student Senate to change its constitution to say that it only represents undergraduate students. Student Senate has two graduate student members.
Graduate Student Senator Drew Pusateri said the change would formalize the difference between the two senates. He argued that Student Senate does not in actuality represent graduate senates and the claim that it does so can be essentially used to bypass [Graduate Student Senate].
Student Senate's Academic Affairs Commissioner Chris Diehl questioned the necessity of such a change.
This is a semantical argument
he said. I really don't think we need to take the time to deal with it.
Women's Affairs Commissioner Sally Neidhard said the concern is more than semantics and that she thinks of herself as representing not just undergraduate women but all women on campus.
Vonville said members of Graduate Student Senate and Student Senate would likely form a committee to further discuss the issue.
