Over the weekend, students had the opportunity to show their dads around campus and Athens to an array of activities and events.
Events included zip lining at The Ridges, ”Animal House” screenings at the Athena Cinema, a Jeff Garlin comedian show and a faculty lecture by Dave Ridpath, associate professor of Sports Management.
The free lecture on Saturday, titled "Intercollegiate Athletics and Higher Education in America: A Unique Relationship and an Uncertain Future," took place in the Front Room and attracted about 60 people.
"We are in a world where intercollegiate athletics is immensely popular (and it) affects higher education in many ways (such as) tuition and fees," Ridpath said. "It's an important issue especially for parents to hear about.”
Although many attended the lecture, the Bobcats’ basketball game at The Convo was the most-attended event, Ohio defeated Portland in their first game of the season.
Shawn Wilcoxon, father of freshman and undecided major Maggie Wilcoxon, said he enjoyed taking his daughter to the game and its atmosphere.
"It was packed," he said, adding that it was his favorite part of the weekend.
"It was good weather (and) we had a great time," Wilcoxon said. "I think everyone enjoyed (the weekend)."
