Swimming and Diving: Bobcats coast to double-win weekend

Back-to-back days of competition across two different states proved no match for the Bobcats as they cruised to an undefeated weekend.

Ohio won both its dual meets this weekend, defeating Duquesne 142-98 Friday and West Virginia 176-122 Saturday.

Overall I was fairly pleased

coach Greg Werner said. (Friday) was a nice victory for us especially with same-day travel. You never know what you're going to get when you're on the road especially when you compete the same day that you travel.

Werner attributed a full roster effort as the key to victory against the Dukes.

We have a lot of depth

he said. We have a lot of people leading the way or a lot of people picking up seconds or thirds.

The Bobcats had few problems in Friday's win. Freshman Anastasia Bocharnikova placed first twice, first in the 50 back with a time of 27.75 and then later in the 100 free with a time of 54.03.

Saturday was more of a back and forth meet, as Ohio's biggest momentum swings were in the 200 medley relay, which gave the Bobcats an early 15-2 advantage, and diving, in which career performances scored Ohio numerous points.

Diving was the key today (Saturday)

Werner said. Diving was the key in that they gave us a 28-point lead

so to speak. Anytime you sweep your competition

you're doing something very well.

A standout diving performance wasn't reserved for only redshirt senior Lindsay Hamilton Saturday. Instead, it came from freshman Kristin Capcik, who placed first on the 1-meter boards by posting a career best 241.20. Overall, the Bobcats took the top three spots in both diving events.

They were able to sweep the competition and were able to outscore West Virginia's diving program by 28 points

and so that was 28 points of the 54-point victory

said Werner.

Ohio is now 8-2 this season in dual meets.
