“The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” season three released on Hulu on Nov. 13, with a rise in the cast's popularity due to cast members, Jen Affleck and Whitney Leavitt competing on “Dancing With The Stars” and cast member Taylor Frankie Paul announced as “The Bachelorette" on the upcoming season.
The “MomTok” sensations have solidified their spot in the reality television industry with their constant banter and modern stances on the infamous Mormon church.
MomTok’s goal is to protest for gender equality in the Mormon church and to break the traditional gender roles of the church. Even though the “stay at home” mom is the more traditional role of the wife in the Mormon church, the cast members take pride in their success as women and being the “breadwinners” of their marriages.
Their reality TV show comes after the group’s “swinging” scandal. The scandal includes cast members like Paul and Miranda McWhorter, and the scandal became public after Paul revealed the couple's swinging activities publicly on a TikTok live.
Season three’s main plot points include Jessi Draper’s affair with Marciano Brunette from “Vanderpump Villa" after the cast appeared on an episode, as well as Leavitt’s and Demi Engemann’s return to the show and Paul’s relationship with Dakota Mortenson.
The series starts on its cliffhanger left in season two: Draper's affair with Brunette. Draper is married to Jordan Ngatikaura, a member of the MomTok spinoff “DadTok.” When Draper and other costars were featured on an episode of "Vanderpump Villa," rumors of a potential affair surfaced online between Draper and Brunette.
Another cast member, Layla Taylor, unveiled these rumors after confronting Brunette about the situation and informed Draper of their conversation in episode one.
Draper confessed to having an “emotional affair” with Brunette, but with only two kisses occurring outside of that. She mentioned her and Ngagtikaura’s marital struggles and how they were on a break while this occurred, but she expressed regret over the affair.
Cast member Demi Engemann was also rumored to have an affair with Brunette. Engemann was in hot water after season two, after a verbal confrontation with Paul and Draper regarding Paul’s appearance at the Country Music Awards.
Engemann didn't return for the first couple of episodes, but started filming again to clear her name of cheating allegations. Draper claimed Engemann was manipulating the situation to paint Draper in a bad light and take the cheating allegations off Engemann herself.
Leavitt has been an on-and-off cast member in the show for all three seasons. She was not painted in a good light in both seasons one and two. This continues in season three after Leavitt seems to be the only one in MomTok to side with Engemann.
Leavitt originally didn't re-sign to be in season three, but once she heard the cast members had an opportunity to audition for “Dancing with the Stars,” she quickly rejoined filming. The other members didn't take this lightly; they felt Leavitt was using the show to get ahead, including Affleck, who claimed she was there just for “fame and fortune."
Leavitt, who was cast with Affleck on “Dancing With The Stars,” was recently voted off the show. Audience members anticipate it is because of the release of season three and viewers disagreeing with her actions on the show.
The next season of “The Bachelorette" is highly anticipated because of the reality TV crossovers. Paul, the elected leader of “MomTok,” will be the next season's bachelorette after a three-season journey with her ex, Dakota Mortenson.
Mortenson is not a favored cast member due to his numerous cheating allegations. Paul, throughout the past three seasons, has tried to make her relationship with Mortenson work due to their child, but Mortenson's actions this season are “unforgivable” for Paul.
Mortenson allegedly had an online affair with one of Paul’s mother’s closest friends. This family member was not explicitly mentioned in the series, but there were alleged exchanges of photographs and invitations to come over between Mortenson and this family member.
Paul went on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast before the release of season three to share that she and Mortenson are officially over and she’s looking for a husband on the next season of “The Bachelorette."
Hulu has not yet announced a season four for “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,” but a renewal is highly anticipated because of the show's growing success. Producer Jeff Jenkins predicts they will be filming “through most of 2026” for a possible double renewal.
The season three reunion is set to be released Dec. 4, where the cast will come together to hash out potential loose ends of the season and possibly announce a season four.
