University has big hole to fill

Less than a week after filling its final college dean vacancy, Ohio University announced yesterday that Glenn Corlett, dean of the College of Business, will leave the university June 30, 2007.

Corlett, whose 2005-06 salary was $178,910, will retire from his position after about 10 years with OU. He has been dean of the college since July 1, 1997, according to a Communications and Marketing news release.

I think 10 is enough for someone

Corlett said. I think it's good to get fresh ideas and new ideas in the leadership in the college.

The search for a new dean was one reason for the early announcement, Corlett said. A committee could be chosen as soon as June 2 to begin advertising for the summer and to begin the selection process for Fall Quarter, he said.

The search committee will comprise three faculty members from the College of Business voted on by the Faculty Senate, three faculty members appointed by the provost, one or two students and alumni and a dean from another college, Corlett said.

I hope to be involved he said. I want to share with them what my experience has been.

His connection to Athens is not just business ' it's personal, as well, he said.

I'm not sure I could ever completely sever my ties with Ohio University Corlett said. Not to mention coming down for a football game

a basketball game

and

who knows

maybe even Halloween.

Before serving as one of OU's deans, the 1965 OU graduate worked for N.W. Ayer & Partners, an international advertising agency.

Corlett also has been involved in OU's alumni activities as a member of the National Alumni Board of Directors from 1978 to 1986, receiving the Medal of Merit Award from the Alumni Association in 1991.

Working with our outstanding students

talented faculty and dedicated administrators for the last nine years has been a tremendous joy for me and my family

Corlett said in the news release.
