Ohio center fielder Gauntlett Eldemire received conference and national honors for his performance in five games last week.
Collegiate Baseball Newspaper named Eldemire one of its national Players of the Week, the paper announced Monday. Eldemire also garnered the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week award.
Eldemire hit .700 in five games (four Bobcat victories) last week with seven home runs and 11 RBIs. He hit three home runs in Ohio's 17-5 victory against Buffalo Saturday.
He and teammate Robert Maddox III are two of only 30 players in the country to hit three home runs in a game this season.
After popping out in his first at-bat of the Bobcats' three game series with Buffalo, Eldemire reached base through hit, walk or being hit by a pitch in his next 15 plate appearances.
I don't really feel any better or worse
Eldemire said. I just try to feel the same.
Eldemire's teammate, Jason Moulton, was named MAC East Pitcher of the Week. Moulton pitched eight innings and allowed just one run and struck out nine in Ohio's 5-1 win against Buffalo Friday.
The Bobcats swept the three-game series from the Bulls.
We did pretty well - the whole team did pretty well Eldemire said. Things are coming around and it's actually a good time for it to come around before the (MAC) Tournament.
So
everybody keeps rolling and we'll see how we do in the tournament.
Rain washed away Ohio's contest against Pittsburgh yesterday, and the Bobcats will play at home against Youngstown State today.
It's actually good to have another day off
Eldemire said. We can just prepare ourselves for this weekend.
