Women's swimming places 2nd in meet

Behind strong swims from Ilse Petersen and Michaela Hahn-Lawson, the Ohio women's swimming and diving team finished with 507 points, second only to Miami at the Mid-American Conference Championships.

Petersen finished second in two events, third in another and anchored both of Ohio's championship relays.

Coach Greg Werner said Petersen showed this weekend why she is one of the top swimmers in the conference.

Even though she did not win any individual titles

she was right there on all her races he said. In the relays she might have been one of our most valuable swimmers. She had some huge splits every time she was on a relay.

After helping the Bobcats come from behind to win the 400-yard medley relay Friday, Petersen helped the 800 freestyle relay go from fourth to first.

While I was swimming

I tried not to take it out too fast in the beginning

she said. Then I didn't know I was going to win at the end

and I saw everyone jumping up and down on the side and it just got the energy out of me.
