A hard rock band with a sour sound, Wooly Lemons has been bringing its heavy and steady beat to the Athens music scene since 2005 when drummer Todd Parish of Athens met bassist Mike Riggins of Cincinnati.
When Parish went to Mike's house to jam one day, he met Johnny Riggins, the group's guitarist.
When I went to Mike's house one time
and there's this guy face- down with long dreads laying on the floor Parish said. And I said to Mike 'There's a dude on your floor
' and he said
'Yeah
that's my brother.' That was 11 years ago
and we've been playing together ever since.
It was not until 2005, however, that the Wooly Lemons first officially came to fruition with the addition of guitarist and lead singer Adam Monk from Logan. Even with all members in place, coming up with a name for the group proved to be a challenge as they performed a few shows with no definite name for about five months, until one late night.
I got a drunken phone call at 2 o' clock in the morning from Johnny saying 'Dude ... Wooly Lemons ... that's it
' Parish said. Johnny said that the name repre-
sents both the good and bad in life.
The music can be like when life gives you lemons and kind of sucks
or it can be warm
wooly and fuzzy ... we are a little of both
Johnny said.
This sweet-and-sour sound is a collaborative effort by the band, as each member writes music and lyrics and works equally with everyone else in the group.
I write about everyday life to political issues to tongue-in-cheek things
