NBA legend to greet dads this weekend

Ohio University's University Program Council is sponsoring guest speaker Bill Walton, one of the NBA's 50 greatest players of all time, as the main event for Dad's weekend.

Since leaving the NBA, Walton has served as an analyst for ABC's coverage of the NBA, according to the OU Web site. During his career, Walton won the NBA's Most Valuable Player award in 1978 and won NBA championships with the Portland Trailblazers and the Boston Celtics, and he won the Sixth Man Award in 1986 for the best bench player.

Walton will speak at 8 p.m. Saturday at Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium. Tickets for the event are $5 for students and $9 for general admission.

Other events planned for Dad's weekend are as follows:

_ Friday -The Kennedy Museum of Art will be featuring various exhibits during the weekend, including a print collection from Robert Rauschenberg called Scent and Pull, and the Trisolini Print Project featuring first-time prints from renowned contemporary artists such as Richard Artschwager, Alice Aycock, Nancy Holt, Bruce Nauman and Robert Stackhouse from 1 to 5 p.m.

_ Also on Friday, William Sallak, faculty percussionist, will give a recital at 8 p.m. in the School of Music Recital Hall in Glidden Hall. This event is free of charge.

_ The Late Night Programming Board presents Becky Donohue, who will perform free stand up at midnight Friday in the Front Room in Baker University Center.

_ Saturday -A basketball double-header begins with women's basketball, as the Bobcats take on Central Michigan at 1 p.m. Entrance is free for students and $12 for general admission. Purchasing a ticket to the women's game gets ticket holders into the 3:30 p.m. men's basketball game against Kent State for free. Both games are in The Convo.

_ The Bird Arena will host a late-night, Casino-themed ice skating session from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. Admission is free for students and $3.75 for adults.

While disturbances that occurred on Court Street during Dad's weekend overshadowed the planned events last year, the OU Police Department will not make any staff changes or additions, said Jack Jeffery, OU media specialist for Communications and Marketing. We're not expecting any disturbances. We welcome fathers to campus and hope they have a safe and enjoyable weekend.
