Fall Quarter is an exciting time for Ohio University students: a time to experience parties, new classes, friends and of course, drinking games. Drinking games, especially in college, often offer a unique social experience. Since I have been in college
I have played so many different drinking games in countless places with hundreds of people Liz Turner said. Turner, a junior business finance major, considers drinking games ice breakers for college students. These adult ice breakers are frequently a staple of any party or social gathering. Turner enjoys drinking games in the winter when people are not outdoors as much. Many feel that drinking games are unique because they encourage ingenuity and creativity, especially for people living in the residence halls, who often do not have an abundance of space. Alex Reisdorf, an undecided sophomore, encourages freshmen to use their imagination when playing drinking games. That's what living in the dorms is all about. You have such a small area to work with
Reisdorf said. For those living in residence halls, Reisdorf suggests drinking games using cards because they will not draw unwanted attention. A drinking game seemingly can be invented out of any ordinary object and space can be cleverly improvised. Reisdorf and his friends enjoy playing Landmines, a simple game that can be played by two or more people. A quarter is spun and the spinner drinks for three or four seconds. The spinner puts down his or her beer and tries to catch the quarter between two fingers. Other participants in the game are allowed to drink at their own discretion. Once another player finishes his or her drink they are allowed to slam their can on the spinning quarter, resulting in three more drinks for the spinner, he said.Sometimes that would get a little too loud for the dorms, Reisdorf said. While some drinking games can be played indoors and in confined spaces, others allow for many people to play in a party atmosphere. If we didn't have beer pong
flip cup or corn hole G? I don't know what we would do at parties
said Daniel Settle, a junior computer science major. Beer pong, a very well known game among college students, may be played in many different variations and locations.Junior journalism major Matt Hensch invented a variation of beer pong Winter Quarter of his freshman year known as Survivor Series. We came up with the game when we bought toy wrestling belts for the winners of our beer pong tournaments
he said. Named after the WWF Survivor Series on PayPerView, two teams of three are given seven cups of three different colors, which are arranged into a pyramid. Each teammate is assigned a specific color cup. Teams take turns shooting at the other team's pyramid. Once all of the cups of a color are eliminated, that player is out of the game. The game continues until all three players from the team are eliminated, Hensch said. It's very competitive
he said. I think it will catch on. Senior Josh Silcox appreciates drinking games for their versatility.Drinking games are fun when you want to pre-game before going Uptown or if you want to just stay in with some friends and avoid the Uptown madness altogether. An experienced senior at OU, Silcox, a sociology/criminology major, offers insight to freshmen suggesting to be careful because some games like Screw the Dealer, are designed for a high level of drinking.I think that some freshmen may not be ready to handle that amount of alcohol consumption in such a short time frame
