The No. 12 Ohio field hockey team split a pair of games in Bloomington, Ind., this weekend, defeating Indiana 1-0 Friday before falling to No. 5 Wake Forest on Saturday 2-1.
Sophomore Marcy Dull recorded both goals for Ohio this weekend. In the 68th minute against the Hoosiers, she capitalized on a corner opportunity with a pass from senior Torrie Albini to put the Bobcats ahead for the win.
Against the Demon Deacons, Dull responded to an early Wake Forest goal by Kim Romansky. Romansky scored in the 11th minute and 28 seconds later, Dull worked the ball around Demon Deacon goalkeeper Crystal Duffield and finished for the score.
Both of her goals were the product of multiple people's efforts
said Ohio Coach Neil Macmillan. Against Indiana we put together a new corner just for them and it was executed as well as it could have been. Against Wake
she made a really nice move and buried the ball.
She's got the ability to finish
and she did a very good job of that
Macmillan said.
After scoring just two goals in her freshman season, Dull has already notched two scores in the 2007 campaign.
I saw a little of this last year
to be honest
Macmillan said. I was very impressed with how Marcy came on at the end of the year. Her development has just been excellent. That's what you hope for everyone.
Despite Dull's offensive efforts, Ohio was unable to upset the Demon Deacons. In the 25th minute, Romansky found a loose ball in front of the goal and finished to secure the win for Wake Forest.
The Demon Deacons outshot the Bobcats 20-1 and limited Ohio to just two penalty corner opportunities.
There were two things that really led to our lack of opportunities
Macmillan said. First
Wake Forest played good defense. You have to give respect where respect is due.
Secondly
we didn't create opportunities. We had chances
