Singer Nawal will commemorate the release of her new album Embrace the Spirit with a performance Friday, Sept. 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the Ridges Auditorium.
Embrace the Spirit paints an electric sonic soundscape, weaving together exotic
instrumental passages, eulogies, prayers, and calls to action. Nawal accompanies her performance with gambusi (Comoran lute), harmonic flute, mbira (Zimbabwean thumb piano), daf (Iranian frame drum) as well as other instruments.
Nawal is a native from the Comoros Islands, which influenced her acoustic based fusion sound. Her previous release Aman was met with critical acclaim from the international press.
The concert is free and will mark Nawal’s second visit to Athens.
