Verizon Wireless has announced an expansion of its local network in areas of Athens County.
The expansion is in response to a “rising demand for wireless voice, 3G multimedia and Internet access,” according to a Verizon news release.
The new site, located southwest of Ohio University’s campus along state Route 682, is designed to increase capacity in the area and will cover southwest portions of the campus along with improved in-building coverage at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital.
“People across Ohio are increasingly relying on smartphones and 3G applications to manage their busy lives and stay connected at home or on-the-go,” said Mark Frazier, president of the Ohio/Pennsylvania/West Virginia Region for Verizon.
