Glee airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on Fox
Thankfully, the rumors are not true. There won’t be a Glee spinoff featuring Lea Michele.
RadarOnline reported the rumor Tuesday, quoting “an insider close to the situation” who said, “This will be announced soon. They’re making the details now.”
Fox, however, says that’s entirely false, according to The Los Angeles Times.
Although I can see how this would provide the opportunity to move key characters into a new field and get out of the rut the show is in now, a spinoff is not needed. It never will be.
This is not the first time a spinoff rumor has been surfaced for the show. Near the end of the third season, talk began about a spinoff featuring Michele’s, Chris Colfer’s and Cory Monteith’s characters, who were all, at the time, the biggest characters on the show and were set to graduate. That proved to be false as well.
However, if Glee does plan on moving Kurt (Colfer) to Russia, they may as well just call it a spinoff because there’s no way that storyline will be woven into the overall story well. I’m hoping that rumor is squashed just like the others.
Yet, there is one rumor I’m hoping is true: that the show moves its focus entirely to the New York storylines. Life will be so much better if that happened. This split focus between McKinley and New York is killing Glee, which really just should have bowed out after season three.
Honestly, I just can’t wait for it to end after its sixth season. I still can’t even dream up any ideas as to how they’ll make it all the way through season six — which I’m hoping ends up being a half season or something like that.
