Spice World (dir. Bob Spiers)
I was browsing through the watch instantly section of Netflix the other day, and I found the movie Spice World. Yes, the movie about the Spice Girls - those fabulous girl-power singers from the 1990s. While watching I was surprised to see a ton of famous cameos in the movie: Meat Loaf plays the girls' bus driver, Elton John plays himself and the one that shocked me the most was Hugh Laurie as a detective in Baby Spice's dream sequence. Yes, Dr. House is in the Spice Girls movie! It's ridiculous, and therefore absolutely fabulous.

Warmer Weather
Mother Nature is on my good list this week for finally raising the temperature a little bit. I know this is Ohio and we have seasons and all that, but I was getting really tired of donning eight layers and going outside into Alaska-like temperatures. Besides, my good friends Spike and Ike the groundhogs would really like to come out of hibernation. Ya dig?

Sweet and Lowdown (dir. Woody Allen)
Sean Penn is brilliant in this lovely ode to jazz, which is probably the best Woody Allen film since Husbands and Wives. Delicate in its touch and deep in its passion for music, the film centers around Emmet Ray (Penn), a fictional jazz guitarist in the 1930s based heavily on Django Reinhardt. With his Best Actor Oscars for Mystic River and now Milk, Penn has justifiably made a name for himself playing the complex, tragic hero, but he can do comedy with equal vigor, and Sweet and Lowdown is an impeccable example of these talents.
