TV: Neil Patrick Harris to host Emmys this fall

Neil Patrick Harris will host the 65th annual Primetime Emmy Awards in September 2013.

The award show is broadcasted in rotation amongst the four major networks: CBS, ABC, NBC and Fox. It is CBS’ turn again and they are showcasing one of their best stars, as all the networks typically do during their turn.

And Harris is no novice at hosting.

Harris hosted the Emmys in 2009, the last time CBS had the airdate. He has also hosted the Tonys three times — in 2009, 2011 and 2012 — and is slated to host this year’s Tony Awards on June 9, also on CBS.

He has yet to host the Golden Globes or the Academy Awards due to their broadcasting channels. NBC has a lock on the Golden Globes and station rivalry provides no reason for ABC to allow Harris to host the Oscars.

Personally, I want him to host every award show from now until the end of time. He is hilarious; he can sing; he can dance. There is nothing he cannot do!

And I’m not the only one who feels that way. CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler essentially echoed what everyone already knows.

“Neil is the quintessential host — engaging, entertaining and a true showman — with a passion for celebrating the medium we all love,” she said.
