Faculty Senate adds Bobcat Buy discussion to agenda

Following last week’s Board of Trustees meeting, Ohio University’s Faculty Senate decided to add another presentation to its agenda.

Steve Golding, vice president for Finance and Administration, will address the senators tonight about Bobcat Buy, a new centralized purchasing system aimed toward saving the university money.

The decision to discuss Bobcat Buy came last Thursday after a prolonged discussion during the Board of Trustees meeting, Faculty Senate Chair Joe McLaughlin said.

“The plan is if the university is buying all of its materials from a single vendor, the school expects to get a deal,” McLaughlin said.

In addition to the presentation, three resolutions are on the agenda, all involving changes to the Faculty Handbook made necessary by the quarters-to-semesters transition, McLaughlin said.

One of these will address the six-quarter rule for the semester calendar, which states that Group 3, or part-time, faculty members cannot teach two or more courses without taking a semester off every four years.

OU President Roderick McDavis and Executive Vice President and Provost Pam Benoit will attend the meeting but have no planned presentations.
