In an effort to refresh and re-energize Ohio University Student Senate, President Brian Footer delivered his State of the Senate address at last night's meeting.
In his address, which he will also deliver to the public Jan. 17 at 6 p.m. in the Baker University Center 1804 Lounge, Footer focused on last quarter's accomplishments and explained plans for the remainder of Winter Quarter.
Among the senate's plans for this quarter is a program to allow OU students to connect to administrators, Pizza with the Provost. The event will be Jan. 26 in the Baker Center 1804 Lounge.
I think it's important that students know what's going on behind closed doors ... and hold (administrators) accountable
said Patrick Heery, commissioner of academic affairs.
OU Provost Kathy Krendl will speak briefly about Vision Ohio, the comprehensive plan for the future of OU, followed by a question-and-answer session when students can ask about topics not related to Vision Ohio.
Additionally, senate's Academic Affairs Commission will conduct more research on Tier III courses, Footer said.
We want to make sure that Ohio University students are getting the opportunity to graduate from here in four years if they choose to he said.
Senate will also monitor the state's sale of Strouds Run State Park to Athens City Council, Footer said.
Because of the recent council recommendation to not allow council members who are also university employees to vote in matters in which the university could have interest, senate will be monitoring the situation, said Tim Vonville, commissioner of city and county affairs.
