Post Letter: Band director leaves legacy to be remembered

I just saw the article for the passing of Mr. Socciarelli.  I can’t believe our own student newspaper could not even remember the 110’s nickname of “The Most Exciting Band in the Land.” That it instead used “best band in the land” is inexcusable.

That band up north goes by “The Best Damn Band in the Land” and is an insult in any form of reference to the 110, especially from our own school.

When thousands and thousands of OU alumni from various music groups are mourning the loss of our “Joe Pa,” no one could be bothered to proof an article?

We have spent the last two days on a Facebook group remembering our time with Mr. S. since being contacted by family that they had been called by hospice to come right away.  We have members from Mr. S.’s first year (1973), all the way to recent 110 members sharing how he touched each of our lives, how he taught us to play hard and work hard in life, how he taught us to do better than our best ever.

I hope The Post steps up and does right by issuing a front-page apology to the students, alums and university for such blatant disrespect of an OU icon.

Bill Patterson resides in Columbus.
