Online ordering brings boost in business to uptown venues

Ohio University students who want to order food for take out or delivery can go online instead of reaching for the phone.

Some local business owners and managers say they have seen an increase in deliveries since opening up online ordering.

GoodFella's Pizza, which has two uptown locations, has had a 30 percent increase in deliveries since November when the business started offering online ordering, said Rachael Ritchie, an owner at the eatery.

GoodFella's does not have a website, but uses eatcollege.com for its online orders, Ritchie said.

College students Jehad Bittar and Anthony Fountas created eatcollege.com to help restaurants and bars located around college campuses gain more business through online ordering. The site serves 10 restaurants in the Athens area.

Bittar said they also post and hand out flyers to students to get the word out about the site.

Ritchie noted that GoodFella's has added new customers because of the extensive advertising eatcollege.com does.

Wes Graham, a deli clerk at Mistretta's Italian Market on N. Shafer Steet said he doubts online ordering has improved deliveries for the market. Mistretta's uses allmenus.com and eatcollege.com for online ordering. He did add that the sites are convenient because they display the market's entire menu.

Other online ordering sites that restaurants in Athens use include campusfood.com and campusmenus.com.

Hungry Howie's, 235 W. Union St., uses its own website to process online orders.

I am not sure if it has improved business really

but a lot of customers prefer the online ordering and do it regularly said manager Samantha Deville.

Some OU students said they do not think the Internet is a reliable way to order.

Erin Derosa, a junior studying aviation management, said she doesn't think the restaurants will deliver her order unless she talks to someone on the phone.

Another student commented that she had trouble ordering from The Pita Pit's website.

I tried but it's too hard the steps were confusing

said Ashley Hardin, a freshman who is undecided about her major.
