The fact that the Bobcats were actually able to play all four of their games last weekend could benefit them in the long run.
Ohio (16-18, 5-3 Mid-American Conference) and Miami were the only two teams in the MAC East able to play any of their games last week as unseasonable weather took hold over the entire Great Lakes region. MAC rules prohibit the rescheduling of conference games once they have been canceled.
It's huge
coach Jill Matyuch said after Ohio's sweep over Toledo last Sunday. These percentage points may make the difference in getting in the tournament or not getting in the tournament.
After dropping two games to Bowling Green last Friday, it looked like the Bobcats would have preferred their games to be canceled. But two strong wins against Toledo on Sunday proved otherwise, giving the team two crucial conference victories.
That may have pushed us ahead of the other teams when it comes to the conference championship outfielder Kelly Rodriguez said.
The Bobcats will get their first taste of conference road action today in a doubleheader at Buffalo. Their road trip will continue when they work their way back west for two games at Kent State tomorrow and Sunday.
By record, the Bulls (2-29, 0-4 MAC) are the worst team in the MAC. They have lost 12 straight and 21 of their last 22 games. They have won only two games all season, and were outscored 31-7 in their first four MAC games.
Lacy Schneider leads the team with four home runs and a .268 batting average, but a 7.71 team ERA, more than two runs higher than any other MAC team, has made it difficult for the Bulls to pick up victories.
Kent State (17-11, 4-0 MAC), on the other hand, has not had trouble picking up victories, especially in the conference.
Paced by a dominant pitching staff, Kent State, which was picked to win the MAC East at the beginning of the season, opened its conference schedule with four straight wins before having all four of its games canceled last weekend.
Pitchers Kylie Reynolds and Brittney Robinson have combined to throw 19 complete games. Reynolds, a freshman, ranks sixth in the nation in strikeouts per seven innings and 12th in ERA.
