Women best state rivals at All-Ohio competition

The Ohio women's cross country team proved to be the top team in the state Friday, as they finished ahead of 38 schools to win the All-Ohio meet, in Delaware, Ohio.

Led by senior Andrea Maas's fourth place finish, the Bobcat women edged Ohio State by 10 points to claim the title 63-73.

I can't ask for anything more

Ohio coach Clay Calkins said. The women ran great.

Five of Ohio's runners placed in the top 20 at the meet, showcasing the depth of the team.

Having that many women in the top 20 was great Calkins said. It was just a great team race and they ran as good as expected. We've expected great things out of them and they performed well.

Finishing behind Maas in the 5k race was junior Carime Reinhart, who grabbed 11th place on the hilly course. Freshmen Annie Beecham and Kari Summers took 14th and 15th, and sophomore Melissa Horner proved to be the difference-maker with her 19th-place finish.

Ohio State finished with three runners in the top 10, but their decisive fifth runner finished deep in the standings at 37th.

It's nice to come from finishing 18th four years ago to winning it this year Calkins said.

On the men's side, the Bobcats finished 5th among Division I teams and eighth overall.

We're a young team and we were just pressing to finish in the top ten

Calkins said. We knew it was going to be a tough team race

but the men ran well as far as times are concerned.

Sophomore Shamus Eaton led all Ohio men in the 8k with his 26th place finish.

It would have been nice to get in the top three among Division I schools

but that's how it goes sometimes with a young team

he said. We're an up-and-coming team

though.

Ohio State won the men's race with 42 points, and Miami and Kent were the only Mid-American Conference schools to beat Ohio.
