An Ohio University wrestler pleaded guilty to a minor misdemeanor for disorderly conduct at his arraignment Friday.
Junior Jake Frerichs was found laying against a telephone pole at the corner of West State Street and North Congress Street at approximately 2 a.m. Sept. 3, the morning after his 21st birthday, according to the police report.
He had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, slurred speech and was unable to stand properly, according to the police report. Blood alcohol levels are not necessary in disorderly conduct charges, said Athens Police Officer Adam Claar.
Athletes that make a required court appearance for alcohol or substance violations have committed a Level 3 offense, according to the Student-Athlete Code of Conduct. Level 3 offenders will be suspended for at least 10 percent and no more than 25 percent of the athlete's team matches and will attend a counseling and evaluation session approved by the school.
Coach Joel Greenlee would not comment about what specific disciplinary actions Frerichs will face.
That's between Jake (Frerichs) and myself
he said.
Frerichs went 19-10 last year and obtained an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship.
