After a quick return home and a win, the Ohio women's lacrosse team will hit the road today on a positive note.
That note was a 16-7 victory over Davidson, where the Bobcats (3-7) matched their season-high in goals. Now the 'Cats will take on the Hokies of Virginia Tech out of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
The Bobcats will now try to build on their success after their first home game in over a month by putting what they learned from the win on the road.
We are going to take a lot of confidence from the game (against Davidson)
and it was a game that we have been looking for and trying to put together coach Allison Valentino said. So for us we are going to go into Virginia Tech feeling pretty good about ourselves.
The Hokies (6-5) are coming off an 18-9 loss to Maryland that was preceded by a 6-5 win over Bucknell. The Bobcats will play a Hokies squad that has played some tough competition, including a 22-6 loss to No. 2 Duke.
For the Ohio players, the game appears to be a good chance to continue their success after a tough road trip out west.
We didn't have the best record we wanted to on the road at California but it feels pretty good to get a W at home
attacker Shannon Hadaway said. I am really proud of the team
and I hope we can keep it up.
Hadaway and freshman attacker Kiersten McLouth fueled the offense against Davidson, and both had four points for the Bobcats.
However, McLouth said the team was also spurred by its defensive effort. The Bobcats only allowed two goals in the first half of the game against Davidson ' something they'd like to repeat.
The defense was really strong
all the slides were on time
we played a solid team 'D' and we didn't have a lot of fouls
McLouth said. It was exciting to get a win
and it was a very good team effort.
Opening draw will fly at 5 p.m. today in Blacksburg, Va., in the Virginia Tech Lacrosse Stadium.
