Ohio University art students will raise money for the OU Print Guild by selling their art this week.
It's a good chance to see what's going on in the School of Art and pick up quality artwork that is affordable and definitely at a price you wouldn't get at a gallery
said Karla Hackenmiller, an associate professor in the School of Art.
There will be a variety of prints for sale from both undergraduate and graduate students, as well as some faculty work.
Right now we aren't sure exactly how many prints will be on sale but (it will) be a few hundred said Emily Kline, a graduate student studying printmaking and the organizer of the event.
A percentage of sales will go to the Print Guild to help support some of the group's events. All students studying printmaking are part of the Guild, which raises money for the print program to bring in visiting artists, Hackenmiller said. It also will help sponsor students attending a conference.
The proceeds that go to the Guild from this sale help for students to attend the Southern Graphics Council conference that is being held in Philadelphia over spring break
Hackenmiller said. We have a group of 20 to 30 students
plus faculty
going to the conference.
The planning for this sale started about a month ago. Students in the Guild plan the event, and Hackenmiller supervises.
Part of the planning has been reserving spaces
fliers and organizing and getting the prints together and ready for the sale
Kline said.
The event usually raises anywhere from $1,000 to $2,000 and draws a pretty good crowd
Hackenmiller said.
The next event the Guild will be holding is Inkahoots, an outdoor printmaking event that will be held during the first weekend in May.
