Athens auditor commences 4th term

The Athens County Auditor was the first auditor to ever be sworn into office by Auditor of State Dave Yost.

The ceremony to swear in Auditor Jill Thompson took place during last night’s Athens County Republican Party Lincoln Day Dinner, located at the American Legion Banquet Hall, 520 W. Union St.

This is the first time Yost has sworn an auditor into office, said Pete Couladis, Athens County Republican party chairman, adding that they are very happy to have him conduct the ceremony.

Thompson said she was delighted to have Yost swear her back into office.

“It is very humbling,” Thompson said.

She added that she and Yost have been friends for years and it was her privilege to have him present.

Thompson ran uncontested in the 2010 election, and it is her fourth term serving as county auditor since 2000. She said she hopes to continue with strong leadership during the state’s time of challenge.

Thompson said she would like to stay in touch with the local and state levels by making ordinances feasible for both levels.

“We do the best we can to work with other officials,” Thompson said.

Couladis said he believed the event appeared successful, and about 112 guests were in attendance.

After the ceremony a dinner was held for all guest in attendance.

Dinner guests included the Secretary of State John Husted and the Attorney General Mike DeWine, Couladis said.

“(Thompson) is a great public servant, and I am honored,” Yost said.
